A Yering Station Wedding Four Years in the Making
Tahlia and Alex’s joyful Yering Station wedding in the Yarra Valley, with brilliant speeches, great food and wine, and a memorable family moment.

Four years before their wedding, when Tahlia and Alex were still early in their relationship, they visited Yering Station and Tahlia said something unusually certain: “I could see us getting married here one day.” It was not a line that needed revisiting or reinventing. Four years later, they did exactly that.
For a couple who love food and wine, Yering Station in the Yarra Valley made sense in the most personal way. It was a place already connected to their story, rather than somewhere chosen simply because it looked good on a list. The wedding gave that early thought a much bigger audience: their favourite people, gathered to celebrate a marriage that had been quietly foreshadowed years earlier.

The value of being organised
Tahlia describes herself as a Type A gal, and by her own account, there was “absolutely no chaos” on the day. That is not an accident. Couples who have planned carefully will recognise the difference: when the big decisions are made early, there is room to be present once the day arrives.
Her advice is admirably practical. Book the major pieces first—the venue, photographer, DJ and dress—then allow the rest of the process to become more enjoyable. It is the kind of guidance that comes from someone who clearly had a plan, but did not lose sight of why the plan existed in the first place.
At Yering Station, that meant the focus could stay where Tahlia and Alex wanted it: on having everyone together, sharing great food and wine, and giving the occasion the attention it deserved. They were also blessed with a 25-degree day for their lawn ceremony, which helped make the whole experience feel easy without becoming the story itself.

One very memorable walk down the aisle
Ask Tahlia what she remembers most clearly, and she goes straight to the ceremony. More specifically, the moment she first saw Alex as she walked down the aisle.
It is the sort of memory that cuts through even the most carefully considered planning. There are many decisions involved in bringing a wedding together, but there is no rehearsal for the particular feeling of reaching the person you have chosen in front of everyone who knows you best.
Then came the moment no amount of organisation could account for: after handing Tahlia to Alex, her dad tripped over her dress.
It was not chaos, apparently. Just a perfectly timed piece of family comedy in the middle of an emotional milestone. For all the care Tahlia put into the day, it is fitting that one of the clearest memories is a small, human interruption—her dad adding a little levity to a moment that mattered enormously.

Speeches with no shortage of material
The speeches brought out the personalities of the people closest to Tahlia and Alex: their MCs, dads, maid of honour and best man. Tahlia remembers them as hilarious, which is a generous compliment in a room full of people trusted with a microphone.
Her dad, in particular, made sure his speech would not be forgotten quickly. He revealed there was a possibility that Tahlia and Alex had been conceived on the same day. It is a statement that sits somewhere between family history and information no one had specifically requested, and it gave the speeches their own distinct place in the story of the wedding.
That kind of humour says something useful about the people around Tahlia and Alex. The day was thoughtfully arranged, but it was never stiff. There was space for emotion, for candour, and for the sort of family line that will be repeated long after the formalities are over.

A venue team who understood the assignment
Before the wedding, Yering Station’s events manager, Bec, had already made a strong impression on Tahlia. Her quick answers made the planning process easier, but it was the menu and wine tasting that really stood out.
The tasting was so generous that Tahlia sensibly asked for half-sized wine pours before sitting down with Bec to discuss the finer details afterwards. It is a practical decision, and also a very good indication that Tahlia and Alex had chosen a venue aligned with their priorities.
In the end, this Yarra Valley wedding will be remembered for its history, its humour and its people. A sentence said early in a relationship became a marriage; a dad added an unscripted moment at the aisle; and a speech went further into family lore than anyone could have predicted. For Tahlia and Alex, that combination felt exactly right.
