Love in a Tattoo Parlour

Tamara & Dave’s Heart & Soul Tattoo Parlour wedding in Melbourne was an intimate, unruly celebration with family, tattoos and a photobooth.

I don’t think that anyone would ever have accused Tamara of being anything but a bit wild so it stands to reason that when this ex-wedding planner agreed to marry David that almost all sense of tradition would go out the window. There was something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue but that was both the start and the end of the traditional wedding checklist sorted. There was to be no white dress, no traditional bridal party, no heartfelt vows spoken inside a church and not even a wedding band in sight.

A Ceremony on Their Own Terms

Instead, Tamara wore a black mini dress and a long, pink fur coat with knee high boots, in stark contrast to her Hubby’s bright green, tartan tracksuit and runners. The “bridal party” consisted of Tamara’s “Human of Honour” Minna, the 14yo the only one in attendance to opt to wear a traditional suit and Harriet and Matilda as David’s “Best Men” the 4yo twins ducking in and out as they pleased. The ceremony itself was held inside a tattoo studio with a view of Flinders Street Station much to the glee, and quiet horror of two unsuspecting clients getting their own work done when Sheridan the celebrant, with whom the couple had met only moments earlier launched into her rapid-fire ceremony and with a quick pash and a signature or 4 the deal was sealed in less than 10 minutes which brings us to the “rings”. You see rings can be taken off and that did not quite sit right with either David or Tamara. That was never an option for them to be able to take their rings off and walk away so instead they opted for each other’s initial on their ring finger, a sign of how truly committed they are to each other.

Calm in the Joyful Chaos

Tamara and David drove into the city together that morning laughing about how they were going to be late. The music was chosen by the tattoo artist on her journey in on the train. Tamara’s hair and makeup were carried out at Mecca Borke Street with no trial and no brief other than “make me look hot”. The twins absolutely rebelled against wearing their handmade suits and instead wore whatever they wanted under sequined bomber jackets. But despite all this as Tamara and David stood in front of their 7 closest family members and 6 complete strangers there was an undeniable sense of calm and joyful chaos, David’s essence joining Tamara’s as they too joined their lives.

Gold Coins and a Steak Afterwards

Strolling through Melbourne CBD to get some stunning photos to commemorate their unruly and untraditional wedding day Tamara and David really only cared about one thing and that was making each other laugh and smile and as they stood at the vintage photobooth at Flinders Street Station politely asking strangers in line for gold coins as a wedding gift as they had not bought enough with them it was so clear to both of them that this was all they needed. That they were glad they had not spent a fortune they didn’t have on a party they didn’t want with people they barely hung out with. They just wanted to pash in a vintage photo booth and then go and eat a steak with their families before going to get rip roaring drunk with their closest friends at a brewery.

It was only upon looking back at the photo’s that Tamara and David even noticed that they had been married inside Heart and Soul tattoo studio and realised how perfectly everything had aligned for them with very little effort but with a lot of their own heart and soul.
