Wedding Photography Melbourne
Real, unplanned moments — captured with heart, humour and honesty.
Melbourne weddings deserve more than posed photos — they deserve real moments.
I’ve photographed over 1,000 weddings across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula. My style is simple: genuine emotions, natural moments, and a fun, relaxed experience that lets you be yourselves.
If you want storytelling that’s honest, warm and a little bit cheeky — you’re in the right place..
Real moments always win.
Not staged. Not awkward.
Just honest, heart-first storytelling — the kind that brings your wedding day back to life every time you look at it.

Meet John — The Moment Guy
I’m a Melbourne wedding photographer who’s spent 15+ years capturing the stuff that really matters — the real, unscripted moments that actually feel like your wedding day.
I’m the guy laughing with your bridal party, calming the nerves, blending into the crowd, and catching every blink-and-you-miss-it moment your family talks about for years.
My approach is simple:
Warm. Fun. Zero-awkwardness.
Real moments over posed ones — always.
Most couples say the same thing afterward:
“It felt like having a mate with a camera — and the photos are unreal.”
If you want wedding photos that feel honest, emotional and full of life, you’re in the right place.
What you can expect on your wedding day
A calm, fun, zero-awkwardness experience — the kind where you get to be present, have a laugh, and actually feel the day.
From morning prep through to the dance floor chaos, I’m there catching the real stuff — nerves, stupid jokes, dodgy dance moves, and the blink-and-you-miss-it moments.
No posing. No pressure.
Just the day, done properly.
Melbourne wedding photography that feels real — not staged
If you’re looking for a Melbourne wedding photographer who keeps things relaxed, fun and genuinely you, that’s what I do best. I’ve photographed more than a thousand weddings across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula — from tiny elopements to big Greek and Italian celebrations — and the goal is always the same: real moments, honest emotions and photos that actually feel like your day.
I blend in, read the room and capture the good stuff as it naturally happens: the nerves in the morning, the stupid jokes, the family chaos, the golden light, the dance floor madness and all the split-second moments you didn’t realise were happening. No awkward posing. No pressure. Just storytelling that feels effortless and true to who you are.
Whether you’re getting married in the CBD, at Quat Quatta, Stones of the Yarra Valley, Zonzo Estate, Luminare or anywhere in between, you’ll get warm, natural, timeless images without the stiff, staged vibes.

Melbourne Wedding Venues I Know Like the Back of My Hand
Over 15+ years photographing Melbourne weddings, I’ve worked at pretty much every venue you can think of — and I know how to get the best out of each one. Places like Acacia Ridge, Stones of the Yarra Valley, Zonzo Estate, Re’em Yarra Valley, Flowerdale Estate, Yering Station, Mitchelton Estate, Bramleigh Estate, Meadowbank Estate, Inglewood Estate and Coombe are perfect for relaxed, natural photography with beautiful light and plenty of space to move.
Around Melbourne, I shoot often at Luminare, Alto Events, Showtime Events, The Button Factory, Vogue Ballroom, Butler Lane, Rippon Lea Estate, Werribee Mansion, San Remo Ballroom and a heap of bayside spots like Sandringham Yacht Club, Sorrento Baths, The Continental Sorrento, Dromana Estate and Merricks General Store.
Every venue has its own vibe — different light, timings, layouts, weather quirks — and after thousands of weddings, I’ve learned exactly how to photograph them in a way that feels honest, warm and totally “you,” without staged posing or awkward setups.
Why it helps to book a photographer who already knows your venue
Every venue has its own rhythm — the way the light falls at different times of the day, the tight spots during prep, the fast moments during the ceremony, the windy corners, the hidden pockets of calm where you can sneak away for a breather.
After 15+ years photographing weddings across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula, I’ve learned how to read these venues inside out. I know where the sun actually sets at Stones, how fast things move at Luminare, where the best pockets of shade are at Zonzo, and which direction the wind loves to blow at Sandringham Yacht Club.
Knowing a venue means you get:
✔ Better photos with less time wasted
No wandering around. No guesswork. We get straight to the good stuff.
✔ A calmer, smoother timeline
I help you plan around light, weather and ceremony chaos so the day feels relaxed — not rushed.
✔ Natural, in-the-moment photos
When I already know where to stand and what’s coming next, I can focus on the real moments instead of staging things.
✔ Zero awkwardness
You won’t be told to pose in weird spots just because “the photographer likes this tree.”
Everything I do is built around how you naturally move and interact.
If you’re getting married at any Melbourne or Yarra Valley venue, chances are I’ve shot there before — which means less stress for you, and more genuinely good photos.
Some of Our Favourite Venues
Stones of the Yarra Valley
Stones is one of my all-time favourite venues to photograph — the vineyards, the Barn, the Chapel and the sunset views are unreal. I’ve ben shooting weddings here for over 18 years, and I know exactly how to use the light, the locations and the timing to keep everything relaxed and looking natural.

Alto Events
Alto Wedding Photographer
Alto is one of my favourite city venues — modern architecture, floor-to-ceiling windows and Melbourne’s skyline lighting up every photo. I’ve photographed many weddings here over the years and know exactly how to use the rooftop terrace, the reflections, and the bold lines of the space to create clean, stylish images that still feel natural and relaxed.
Zonzo Estate
Zonzo is one of the most photogenic vineyards for weddings — the long driveway, the rows of vines and the modern architecture all photograph beautifully. I’ve shot here for years and know the best light, angles and quiet spots to escape the chaos for a breather (and epic photos).

Yering Station
Yering Station, Yarra Valley Wedding Photographer
Yering Station is a Yarra Valley icon — rolling vineyards, modern architecture and incredible golden hour light. I’ve been shooting here for years and know the best angles, hidden spots and sunset timing to make the most of the views. Whether it’s the Barrel Room or the open lawns, everything at Yering Station photographs beautifully.
Mitchelton Estate Wedding Photographer
Mitchelton Estate
Mitchelton is a dream if you love modern architecture mixed with vineyards and river views. The tower, the cellar door and the open grounds all give you those timeless, editorial-looking shots couples love. After photographing many weddings here, I know exactly when and where the light hits perfectly.
Luminare
Luminare by The Big Group Wedding Photographer
Luminare is all about drama, sunsets and city lights. The rooftop views are unbeatable, the interior is timeless, and every corner photographs beautifully. After shooting countless weddings here, I know the exact timing for the best skyline light, the quiet corners for natural portraits, and how to make the whole place feel warm, fun and effortless.
Wedding Photography FAQs
Q1. How much does wedding photography cost in Melbourne?
Most of my couples invest from $3,800 upwards for wedding photography in Melbourne, depending on coverage, locations and what’s included. Every wedding is different, so once I know a bit about your day I’ll recommend options that actually make sense for you – not just a cookie-cutter package.
Q2. What’s included in your wedding photography packages?
All wedding photography packages include professionally edited high-resolution images in an online gallery you can download, share and back up. You also get relaxed family photos, timeline help, and coverage built around what actually matters to you. Travel across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula is included in most full-day packages.
Q3. Do you offer shorter or more affordable coverage for small weddings or elopements?
Yes. Not every wedding needs all-day coverage. If you’re having a small Melbourne wedding, elopement or shorter celebration, I can tailor coverage to suit. Tell me what you’re planning and I’ll suggest options that keep things simple and affordable without cutting out the important moments.
Q4. Are you a candid wedding photographer or do you do posed photos too?
I’m mostly a candid, documentary-style wedding photographer – I capture things as they happen, without turning your day into a photoshoot. That said, I’ll absolutely step in for the important stuff: family photos, a few relaxed portraits and any must-have combos. We keep it quick, painless and never stiff or awkward.
Q5. How many hours of coverage do we need?
For most Melbourne weddings, 8–10 hours is perfect – from morning prep through to the dance floor. Smaller weddings can work with less. If you’re not sure, tell me what you’re planning and I’ll give you an honest recommendation so you’re covered without over-booking.
Q6. Do you travel outside Melbourne?
Yes. I regularly shoot weddings across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and regional Victoria. If you’re further out (or interstate), just mention it in your enquiry and I’ll let you know what travel looks like.
Q7. Do you offer engagement or pre-wedding sessions?
Yes – engagement sessions are a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding. We keep it relaxed and fun, and you get a set of photos you can use for invites, save-the-dates or just to celebrate this part of the story.
Q8. How do we book you as our wedding photographer?
Send through your date and a few details, and I’ll let you know if I’m free. From there we jump on a quick call, lock in the right coverage for your day, and secure your booking with a deposit and agreement. Easy.
Pop your details below and I’ll be in touch shortly to check availability and pricing.
